The Petrobras Iconography System marks an evolution of the brand’s identity—translating its legacy into a distinctive, contemporary, and unmistakably Brazilian visual language. Strategic directives focus on transparency, efficiency, and cultural relevance, creating cohesion across institutional, industrial, and digital touchpoints.
Developed over months of research and prototyping, the project was led in close collaboration with Petrobras’s brand and product teams. A systemic approach defined formal principles, scalability tests, and technical requirements, resulting in an initial library of 200 icons and a guidelines manual that enables future expansion without sacrificing consistency.
We anchored the system in Petrobras’s Graphic Element—angular lines with rounded corners—as the formal foundation. To ensure performance across platforms, we established a 48×48 px grid that guarantees minimum legibility in interfaces and secure readability at large scales, from plant signage to institutional environments.
As a mixed-economy company, Petrobras must communicate with precision and clarity. The system therefore prioritizes proprietary icons aligned with the brand’s DNA, steering clear of the generic styles common in international image banks. Brazilian plurality is embedded in the drawing: direct forms, geometric rhythm, and subtle cultural inflections that make the iconography both memorable and inclusive.
Usage and accessibility guidelines govern stroke, spacing, motion, and contrast, and account for variations on light and dark backgrounds. The central idea—“Clarity that Connects”—captures the system’s ambition: to make information immediate, link people and processes, and reflect, in every pictogram, the energy and origins of Petrobras.
